Rambling

Day, I've lost count, of waking up with a headache. Swallow Tylenol and moving on. No work today. I should clean the house. I really have no motivation to. It's going to be just me and Sofie all morning. It's been a while since it has been just the two of us. I think I will just spend some one on one time with her. I could take her to my knitting group today. I haven't gone in ages. I think she is old enough to sit and play with the yarn without strangling herself. It will depend on if she behaves today and how my head feels. I have to email Sean today. Not looking forward to that.

I will try and write some more today as well. I haven't done much lately. I am been depressed on how some of it is turning out. I need to refocus and not dwell and just get it out and worry about editing later.

I will also work on the blog a bit today. I am going to try and organize my gadgets and add more ads. I would really like it if I could make some money here..even a little bit. I am going to add some more fun stuff too. I need fun. Oh, I will bring my fish back soon. Just think of it as I am cleaning their tank...:)

What time is it?

I got a call to unexpectedly work yesterday. It was ironic that the night before thinking I wasn't going to work I stayed up really late reading. I haven't done that in ages. So I was dragging, but grateful. I had been told it would be until 4pm but it turned out to be a half day. Their boat wouldn't start and they had to go into town to get parts and stuff. So a broken car then a broken boat. That really stinks. Plus I also lost 2 and half days work.

Today it snowed and it was really dark for a long time. Even Sofie slept in to almost 8am. I read a book. Yes, the whole thing, because I can and I am a fast reader. There was no squabbling with the kids. I made a quiche for breakfast which Sofie loves. I think she has been looking a little thin lately. Maybe it's just me. She doesn't have much of an appetite but that seems to come and go in waves for her. She had almost half the quiche all on her own though. I finally have her napping on a schedule again. Which is good for both of us. She has been having bad dreams at night lately though. I can hear her whimpering and crying in her sleep every night. She winds up coming in bed with me at some point most nights. I don't go and get her unless she gets really loud because she thrashes and then falls out of bed. She is really paranoid about her hair. She keeps telling me that the "mean mean witch" told her she needs to get a hair cut. I think after Christmas I will get it cut. It is long and I never said it wasn't. I just think that if that woman keeps saying things to Sofie that causes her to be scared and have nightmares consciously or not and I can do something to maybe stop it I should. I am well aware that after I get her hair cut the woman will find something else to bad mouth about me and frighten Sofie. I will deal with that when it comes. I hopefully if I do this it will give Sofie a break for a little while and I can be there for her first hair cut to show her it isn't a big deal. Goodness knows they won't be supportive of her. We sat in my bed this morning, her on my lap and we brushed out her hair. We brushed for about half and hour. She had really matted it during the night. I usually braid it before bed a la little house on the prairie. That keeps her from getting knotty and it only takes a few minutes to brush. I didn't last night so it was my fault. Still, I think she likes the time with me. She brushes my hair afterwords.

I was feeling a little bad off and on today thinking about dealing with these little problems that seem so preventable and stupid. Things I just haven't quite adjusted to having to deal with in my life. I hid away in the bathroom to cry for a bit. I don't have much privacy when all the kids are home so the bathroom is the only place. I was only about 5 minutes or so and it helped. I was thinking about Sean again and wondered if he even knew me at all. He probably didn't and only cared about what I could do for him. It was never about him not loving me or believing in me anymore like he said. He said I was the one holding him together when he was at his worst. I know that is true. I have kept him from harming himself many, many times over. Still, I should have said more about what I wanted and what I needed more than I did. It was very hard to be so conscious all the time of what I might say or do that would make him feel bad and get him down on himself or angry with himself all the time. I spoke up as much as I felt I could. In the end though I think I really short changed myself. I feel like every time I do or sometimes even think it I am being selfish and bitchy or whiny. Was I always this way or it a learned condition for all those years with him? I don't know and it's a good reason to be by myself for a while to figure it out. I feel really lonely though at times. I miss and sometimes dream about times I had with him when we just hung out and talked about stuff. Times when we said nothing and just watched tv or read books in different chairs with music playing. Just time shared. It really is a different feeling than when it's just me doing the same things with the kids. When there is another person there you feel comfortable with and happy with, even when you are doing nothing. A best friend you can hold hands with and nod off around. I miss those things. Honestly, it's scary to realize that realistically, I won't have that again. It feels even worse to know those feeling were only ones I had. It was not even the truth and I never shared anything at all. He used me to feel good about himself and to keep from being honest with himself. I kept him alive literally and when he found someone else to support him financially and someone he thought was more beautiful he was gone. He wanted a new outer image and I didn't fit it. If one more person tells me, "well at least you have four beautiful kids" I think I scream and think about kicking them. I just don't care about that right now. I know that. I appreciate that. Aren't I more than just a mom though? What about my own wants and needs and desires? See? Selfish. There are times when I think it's all my fault anyway. My bad decisions. Bad choices. My mistakes. My life is screwed up and stinks because of me. Sure Sean is an ass. He lied, cheated, stole and is an all around selfish bastard. He is an equal opportunity jerk who hurts more than just me but every one he comes in contact with eventually. The system sucks for not putting him in jail his theft and scams and dead beat dad stuff. Well, life's not fair so I can't feel as angry about that as I probably should. Sean does have certain circumstances for his god awful behavior. I do not excuse it though just because of his depression and bipolar and anxiety. I wouldn't excuse a drunk for beating his wife either. I just can try and see where it's coming from. I feel bad that this was something that was snowballing for years and I had no clue how to help not just him but our family. Well, what's done is done. I hurts to miss the lie I loved. The lie that I had a husband who loved me.

As I am writing this, I am sitting in bed with the laptop on my knees. Sofie is behind me on the pillows and brushing my hair out. It is kind of painful. She is trying to be careful though. We have a Disney movie on so it's nice and quiet really.

Today is the craft day when we help the kids make presents for friends and family. I really don't want to go. I will though because I need to motivate myself. I am doing something extremely simple. It isn't really a craft. Years ago when the older boys were little my mom gave the kids a little snack sized baggie that had dry oatmeal and glitter in it. There was a note inside that said it was for Santa's reindeer. So every xmas eve the kids would spread it on the lawn. It would be magically refilled every year and to this day even the older boys go out every xmas and "feed" the deer. It is a cute tradition now. So, I got the stuff to make some and printed out the note and we are going to make them for our craft. It may not be much but it cost me $2 to make 20 of them and it means a lot to Cade. There will be the story to go along with it and hopefully the kids will get the whole family togetherness thing. Since today is a half day we are doing it in the afternoon so the kids here don't really miss school. The older boys don't go in on the boat on half days because they spend more time on the boat than in school. Connor is here and is going to help. Will went to school because he has some xmas shopping to do and he is going to use his gift card he got at the party. The restaurant is open from 11am to 2pm then closes and reopens again at 5pm. The later time is not good because of the boat schedule but the earlier time is perfect for the half day schedule.

I have a nasty tummy ache today. I am hoping it will go away by the time we have to be at the hall at 1pm. Otherwise I will really be using Connor to help with Sofie. Do NOT want to do that.

Work. Well, I found out the reason I didn't get to work Monday and Tuesday was because the mom and her son I babysit for were stuck in another state. She has three other kids from a previous marriage and they were here for the party. She was driving them back to their dad. He lives in Massachusetts and we live in Maine. Personally I don't know why he had to move so far away but, there you go. Anyway, her car died in New Hampshire and there she was stuck with four kids. I would have just cried. The car is still there. $1400 worth of repair needed. It always happens at the holidays doesn't it? I had hoped to work today but since it would have been a half day anyway we are just going to wait until tomorrow. She has catching up to do too. We are trying to plan the same day off for shopping. I need to do it and so does she that way I can be here for her and I can earn some money. Crazy scheduling.

I am not a the glass is half full or a half empty person anymore. Instead I am thrilled there is even water, unless it's poisoned.

scuzzy things

So, I will try and put up some kind of holiday related picture from now until Christmas in honor of the season. Wait....that's not coal!

Kids are for the most part are all well finally. Sofie coughs from time to time but she is full of pep. I on the other hand have a sore throat, cough and stuffiness. I am very tired too. Just my luck. This week is super busy. Me and one other mom are all that's left of our PTC to get the island xmas party up and running for next Saturday. We got our tree, Santa and the present exchange all set up. Instead of roast we are going to to lasagna because that is way easier for two people to do and organize. The kids have play practice today, Wednesday and Friday. Sofie and Cade will be missing it because I am bringing them in to spend the night with Sean. He will have them back by noon on Saturday. The party is at 5pm so they will be here in time for one more practice, hall set up and then to get all gussied up. I am not going to even think about it for the rest of today.

Work was canceled again for today. At least I got to work on Saturday and tomorrow. I dunno about the rest of the week but Friday is out. I have been writing though. It fun and scary and I totally stink. At least I am trying.

Update on the "widower" of my friend. I saw him and the other lady last week together for the first time. Every one was polite but there was tension you could tell. There were a bunch of people there. Yesterday Will comes home and says he heard some people talking about his Facebook page. He hasn't listed him self as widower or engaged. He is single. Hummm? Also, he is a super conservative and he listed his political status as green liberal. What? If you knew the guy you would be thinking he has lost his mind. Maybe he has. Maybe she has it now. Then again...he is "single". I wonder if she knows he is still single. *snicker*

Connor made it to school today and was even talking yesterday. I hope the trend continues.

I have no money, things are bleak..and I am shoving it under the rug for the rest of the holidays in order to save my sanity and not get an ulcer.

quickie

I sent Sean an email today telling him the kids were sick and asked him what he wanted to do about me bringing the little ones to town or not. I don't know what he will say. I am just going to prepare to take them in on the 4pm boat and let them at least rest most of the day tomorrow. I felt horrible this morning. I was dizzy and really tired. I had some protein and some fluids and I was right as rain. Colds always make me feel like that. Plus, I slept really well last night so I didn't want to get up. Work got postponed then canceled. That sucked. I am getting a few hours tomorrow. I am glad I can do it from home and still be with the sickos.

Does anyone have yahoo for an IM? If so then look me up. I am perphila2. If you are a whacko I will just block you. If you are a friend then we have another place to chat!

I wrote again today. Six more pages. It doesn't sound like much but I am a slow typer and I had to change a lot of previous stuff and edit things. Thanks to Carol for a setting idea..:) If my freak show of a story actually gets published then you will get a credit! Not that you would want your name attached to such a thing...lol.

My Twitter sidebar is all messed up. I am too tired to deal with it tonight.

Now Will and Connor are sick. Will has a nasty cough but Connor is just stuffy so I think he can fight it off. That is the same stage as me. Other than being tired I am only stuffy. Sofie had a fever yesterday but it's almost normal now. Cade is grumpy and still stuffed. They are all home today and are getting on my nerves. The squabbling. Someone save me. I have confined them to beds and that has helped.

No work today. I am not liking that. I will be working tomorrow but I can't Friday because I have to take the kids in to town to see Sean. I am the only one who has to miss work in this arrangement. Maybe I should tell him he has to pick them up on Fridays and I will get them on Sunday. Yeah, like he would do that. I will think about it.

I am writing again today. I got about five pages done yesterday but it was mostly reference stuff and I researched a lot. Today I have done three pages of actual writing. I am taking a break for lunch. I guess I better run and do the rounds of medicine for the kids. I want a nap.

Weird

Ok, so yesterday should have been a real honest to goodness full day off. Did it happen? I got a call about getting a new client for cleaning in the morning. I agreed. I need the money. Then I felt overwhelmed all of a sudden. Like a huge heavy weight. I didn't want to leave the house. I wasn't feeling resentful of not having my day. I mean I was doing chores anyway. I just can't explain it. It wasn't good though. I started thinking, oh crap, now I am going to be the mental case and be a shut in. Sofie and Cade went for a walk and to go visit next door to play. Will went in town to hang with a friend and Connor was working. Things were quiet and calm. My car was "fixed" again yesterday and turns over now. I had to go outside and talk with George about it. My insides were screaming the whole time to get back inside and for him to just leave even though he was being very kind. Sofie and Cade came home after a few hours and half way through Sofie's nap she woke up with growing pains. Of course it was just when I was about to leave to go meet up with the guy to do a walk through on his place. Crud. I had to call him and see if we could meet later. He was cool about it and said his neighbor who just happens to be the mom I babysit for could do the walk through with me instead since he was leaving on the next boat. I felt super duper. I thanked the evil kiddy pain gods for inadvertently helping me out. I am sure fate was displeased. Then I realized I had started my period and that was why I felt like crap and was acting all sketchy person down the block. I was so happy not to be needing to look up pdocs for myself. I'm just your average crazy woman. Today is back to normal routine. Babysitting and getting caught up on paperwork and other things I put off this weekend. I have to go into town Thursday for conferences for Will and Connor so I am going to try and chill as much as possible and just let it ride..:)

Weekend

Cade came back from camp on Friday happy but feeling a sore throat. It was his birthday (10 years old!) so he was feeling some good vibes. He had gotten some books from his teacher and "the girls". The girls are from another island family and they are good friends. Their mom always threatens to kiss him and he runs away screaming...it's quite funny. He had already gotten my present a few weeks ago and a couple of games he wanted from Will. Will being as cheap as they come found someone else who had the games and negotiated a deal and got them for free. Cade also got money from the grandparents. Sofie gave him a hug. Connor got him a tee shirt that Cade opened later that day. It was the only present he got on his actual birthday..:) He got all the rest earlier. He was fine with that. Since I was going away for the weekend for a girls thing (which was great and I will post a pic of my new toes) I picked up a cake for him after swim lessons and we ate it at grandmas house. Cade has yet to get anything from his father. Sean had telling him about all the wonderful things he was going to get Cade. Cade never took it seriously. Good thing. Not a call, a message, an email, a card, nada. Of course Cade got sick from camp. Another girl got sick too. Connor woke up sick this morning.
So, everyone had a good weekend, except for Cade feeling bad but it was overall good. I am feeling like taking a nap today. I don't know why. I slept well last night. I was cleaning up a storm this morning though. The place was in good shape though when I got home. Will and Connor had stayed home instead of going to grandma's because they both worked. Other than a few dishes in the sink all was good. I am hoping the rest of the week goes well. I got $130 today for work last week. Not much but better than nothing. It makes me happy. I can pay for my parking in town now. Now I think I will wade through emails...I have about 58 or so.

It's happening again. That weird sneezing fit I had a few weeks ago. It started yesterday afternoon and I still have it this morning. I totally forgot I had medicine yesterday and was just miserable. I just took some. I hope it works. I wonder if I have developed an allergy or maybe it's just old age..:) Change of seasons doing it? I dunno. It's just plain weird and my eyes are burning. I have a cup of tea, Sofie is all clean and watching a movie next to me while learning how to do buckles, zippers and laces and I am waiting to the drug to kick in. It's for allergies so if it doesn't work then that probably isn't my problem. I will just be a random sneezing freak of nature. I was planning on taking Sofie for a nice long walk today. The weather is nice so I hope I feel better soon. Now Sofie is dancing and singing. She is watching Labyrinth (again) and loves the Magic Dance song. She loves David Bowie. How funny is that? She has such a pretty voice. Mine stinks. So does Sean's so it's her own talent completely. It's nice to hear singing in the house.

Cade left for camp today. He will be gone until Friday. It's through the school. It is a leadership and esteem building thing. Almost the whole school is gone. They are joining up with another island school. It will be quiet without him here. Two kids are left at the school here. The camp is only for 3-5th grades. The ones left behind are 1st graders. They call themselves Team Uno. Last year they were Team K. It's pretty cool. Today they have a field trip to the island store to make pizza and tomorrow are going to the island post office for a behind the scenes tour. The place is so small I am not sure what there is so see but it should be fun anyway...:) These are things Sofie will be able to do in the spring if they are able to start a preschool here. Did I even mention that? I got a call from the teacher a few days ago asking if I was interested in letting Sofie go to preschool here if it was available. I though well, cool. The superintendent had asked about it and it going to see is she can set it up. Cade would be in school with his sister for a few months at least. Next year he will be traveling on the ferry in town for 6th grade. None of the boys went to preschool. I didn't think it was necessary. I think for Sofie would like it though since the environment is SO different. She is already so involved with the school going on all the field trips and going to recess and coming over for story time frequently that it won't be too drastically different. A lot of places that call themselves preschools I think are really just more expensive day cares. Parents can feel less guilt about being away with the name change. We fool ourselves with fancy names. Domestic engineer = maid...sorry. Since she would only gone for the morning and still be home for nap time I think she would like it. It isn't a done deal anyway so we'll see. School budgets are tight. I don't know if Aiden would go this spring or next fall. He is 6 months younger so he would be a year beind Sofie either way. If he does go then I will be out of a job. Well, not quite but less time. It's all up in the air. So much to think about.
